Stanford Linguists at CLS 61
The 61st conference of the Chicago Linguistic Society (CLS 61) was held on May 9-11, 2025 at the University of Chicago. Alums Ashwini Deo (Ph.D. ’06) and Itamar Francez (Ph.D. ’07) both gave invited talks. Ashwini's talk was titled “How should interlocutors commit? Signaling speaker preferences about commitment” and Itamar's talk was titled “Deficiency and Loss: Ways of Missing”. Courtesy Professor Anne Harper Charity Hudley also gave an invited talk, titled “Inclusion and Decolonization in Linguistics”. Ph.D. student Tilly Brooks presented a poster titled “Inclusion and Decolonization in Linguistics”, and alumna Annette D’Onofrio (Ph.D. ’16) was a co-author on a talk titled “Who’s in extreme pain?: the effect of identity and intensifiers on physicians’ perceptions of pain”.
