Look Who's Talking: Degen
Judith Degen is presenting a talk titled "Overinformativeness? Rationally redundant reference" at the Conference on Quantitative Approaches to Language at UC Irvine this week from May 4-5. Several Stanford alumni will also be presenting; these include Richard Futrell (B.A. '10, M.A. '12), presenting "Information locality: An information-theoretic principle of natural language word order" and Roger Levy (Ph.D. '05), presenting "Gender bias in preferred linguistic descriptions for expected events." Psychology colleague Mike Frank will be presenting "Variability and consistency in early language learning: The Wordbank project."
