Glass and Pratt Dissertation Oral Presentations

Congratulations to two of our soon-to-be PhD alumnae, Teresa Pratt and Lelia Glass, both of whom passed their Dissertation Orals this week!

Teresa's dissertation, "Affective Sociolinguistic Style: An Ethnography of Embodied Linguistic Variation in an Arts High School", explores the linguistic and embodied practices used by adolescents in the construction of affective style, and is based on an enthnography of a public arts high school in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Lelia's dissertation, "Distributivity, Lexical Semantics, and World Knowledge", investigates the conditions that govern distributive interpretations of coordinated subject nominals in English, considering specifically the lexical semantics of the predicates with which they combine.
