How to Declare

Steps to Declare a Linguistics Major

  1. Complete your Course Planning Guide for the B.A. in Linguistics and have it reviewed and signed by the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS). Note, Arto Anttila is on sabbatical in Autumn Quarter 2024-25. During this time, please contact Vera Gribanova directly or schedule an appointment to have your Course Planning Guide reviewed and signed.
  2. Declare your major in Axess. 
  3. Send completed Course Planning Guide to the Assistant Director of Student Services, pick up a gift (see Department Coordinator), and have your picture taken for the Linguistics bulletin board (see Department Coordinator or submit your picture via email).

We require students to consult with the Director of Undergraduate Studies when declaring the major, and maintain regular contact with the Director during the remainder of their Stanford undergraduate career. Our DUS holds virtual office hours on Fridays, from 12:00-1:00pm, or by appointment (Note, during Autumn Quarter 2024-25, please contact Vera Gribanova directly or schedule an appointment to have your Course Planning Guide reviewed and signed).
